Oregon State Troopers provide a wide variety of public safety services. From the rural counties to metropolitan freeways, Troopers are trained to do it all. The mission of the Oregon State Police is to develop, promote, and maintain protection of people, property, and natural resources of the State, and to enhance the safety and livability by serving and protecting its citizens and visitors through leadership, action, and coordination of Oregon's public safety resources.

Salary increases are merit-based and are subject to collective bargaining agreement.
Use your GI Bill While You Train
Your GI Bill is worth $39,000. This is a benefit that you've earned. After you leave the military you have 10 years to use it -- or lose it forever. The GI Bill can be used during your first 2 years of employment with the Oregon State Police. Since we require only a high school diploma, this allows Troopers to continue on with their educational goals using GI Bill money. The Oregon State Police is a paramilitary organization, so prior servicemen and women are typically very successful with OSP.
Minimum Qualifications

- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Twenty-one years of age or older upon appointment.
- Possess and maintain a valid license to operate a motor vehicle.

Once your application has been received by the Oregon State Police Sworn Applicant Processing Section the next phase of the process is a screening of your criminal history and driver's license. A letter will be sent to you within a few weeks with information regarding testing locations, times, and more details. The applicant process listed below can take anywhere from 6-12 months depending on the applicant. The next entry level testing dates are:
May 3-4, 2008 in Albany
June 21-22, 2008, in Salem
July 12-13, 2008, in Pendleton
July 19-20, 2008 in Medford
Sept. 6-7, 2008 in Albany

- Entry Level Testing
Day 1 - Physical Fitness Test (pushups, sit-ups, and 2 mile run) we typically lose 50% of the applicants in this portion of the test, OVERTRAINING to meet the minimum standard is encouraged. The written test is rated at a 12th grade level and includes math, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and reading comprehension.
Day 2 - LESI Test, Cognitive ability, General Knowledge, Suitability Tests, and online background completed by applicant within 2 weeks.
- Background
OSP Background Investigator meets applicant and completes a thorough background investigation on applicant. Applicant ranks top 5 choices for office locations. Background is submitted to General Headquarters for review.
- Selection Committee
Committee reviews all the backgrounds and based on hiring numbers makes selection for front office interviews.
- Front Office Interview
Possible location assignment and recruit school starting date pending psychology and medical screening.
- Recruit School - PAID
4 week live in academy with only OSP Recruits (most weekends off)
16 week DPSST academy integrated with other agencies (weekends off)
4 week post academy with only OSP Recruits (most weekends off)
